When does BT switch off landlines in Milton Keynes?

The national switchover from copper landlines is due to complete by January 2027, and Milton Keynes is included. Businesses still on traditional lines need to move to a digital service before then.

The short answer

Openreach is retiring the old copper phone network (PSTN) and ISDN across the whole UK, and the switchover is due to complete by January 2027. Milton Keynes, Bedford, Northampton and Luton are all part of this national programme, so there is no local exemption.

Once your exchange area has moved over, new traditional phone lines can no longer be ordered, and existing ones need to move to a digital service.

What stops working?

Anything that relies on a copper phone line: traditional business landlines, ISDN lines, ADSL broadband, and some older alarms, lift lines and franking machines. If it plugs into a phone socket on the wall, it is worth checking.

What replaces it?

Calls move to VoIP, which carries your phone calls over the internet. Broadband moves to SOGEA (fibre broadband without a phone line) or full fibre FTTP. Busy offices may prefer a dedicated Ethernet leased line.

You can keep your existing 01908 number. We port it across to our cloud phone system so customers notice no change.

What should I do now?

Make a list of every line and device at your premises, check your contract end dates, and plan the move before the deadline rather than in a rush. Our 30-second readiness audit is a quick place to start.
